STAR Monthly Zoom Featuring Local CASA Program Panel

Please join the STAR Monthly Zoom on June 30 from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m., when we will host a CASA program panel to discuss how to bring youth voices to both court proceedings and court reporting. At the court’s discretion, youth in foster care are legally entitled to receive notice of a hearing on their case and to present evidence and be heard by the court. The Family Code provides that children and youth in both temporary managing conservatorship and permanent managing conservatorship shall attend court and consult with the judge if it is in their best interest. Youth in foster care have a right to express to the court their views on everything from the medical care they receive to their wishes for their future. It is especially important that older youth not just have input but truly feel heard by all the parties in anticipation of transitioning out of foster care. CASA volunteers have a unique opportunity to advocate for youth in foster care to participate in the legal decisions being made for their future, whether it’s attending court hearings, meeting privately with the judge or including a youth’s court report when filing a CASA court report.

We are excited to welcome a local CASA program panel to our June STAR Zoom to discuss their program practices around youth voices in court proceedings and court reporting. Bring your questions and best practices to hear from your peers and share resources. This STAR Zoom counts as 1 hour of Continuing Education for CASA supervisors and staff.
